When Sharpes of Nottingham decided to enter the 61nd UK Coach Rally, it wasn't a decision that was taken lightly when entering our 1986 Volvo B10M Van hool Alizee. This coach has undergone an extensive restoration programme, which has taken over 3 years to complete.
Route One Magazine's Tim Deakin said ;
"Perhaps the most striking older coach present was also a Volvo B10M. Dating from 1987, it carries a Van Hool Alizée body and was entered by staunch Van Hool buyer Sharpes of Nottingham. Sharpes has had the Alizée restored on almost a ‘cost is no object’ basis, and it joins the firm’s other heritage coaches"
Sharpes were successful in winning two awards and trophies in the following classes: • Rita Dalziel Trophy - (Top coach 25 years or older)
Such was its appeal, the Sharpes Alizée was also awarded the Bernie Porton Memorial Trophy. Uniquely, this award is voted for by those coach drivers present, showing the esteem that the B10M is held in. • The Bernie Porton Memorial Trophy - (Coach of the Year as voted by the The Coach Drivers)
