RUFFORD OLD HALL with SPRING GARDENS and BLUEBELL WOODS A NATIONAL TRUST PROPERTY

Tuesday 7th May

Rufford Old Hall at Rufford, Lancashire was built in 1530 for Sir Robert Hesketh.  Only the Great Hall survives from the original structure, a brick-built wing in the Jacobean style was added in 1661, at right angles to the Great Hall, and a third wing was added in the 1820s .  The beautiful Tudor building is surrounded by Victorian and Edwardian gardens and as you pass through the entrance of the Hall, you will notice a colourful array of springtime flowers coming into bloom.  From daffodils and crocuses, you can see the signs of spring blooming all around you with a sparkling sea of bluebells dotted all through the Hall's North Woods.  The Victorian Tea Room offers a range of hot and cold food, sandwiches, soups, snacks and homemade cakes and bakes, as well as hot and cold drinks. There is only the second-hand book shop to browse.  We continue to Ormskirk an historic Market Town in the heart of West Lancashire steeped in history and character.  It offers excellent shopping with a mix of high street and independent retailers and a wide range of restaurants, cafes and pubs all in walking distance within a compact town centre.
