Designed by Sir Charles Barry, architect of the Houses of Parliament, this is one of the finest Victorian homes still in existence, which houses fine furniture and works of art. Today, the Castle is the home of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and sits within a park designed by Capability Brown in the eighteenth century. Known around the world as the real home of 'Downton Abbey’ charming over 400 million people and Highclere Castle plays its starring role beautifully. Downton Abbey television series was filmed in 2010 here and the area including the small village of Brampton continued for six years followed by several films.
