Saturday 4th June
We travel to the charming market town of Thirsk with a morning visit to the World of James Herriot, the award-winning museum, converted from the original house and surgery of the local vet and author, real name Alf White. He wrote, “All Creatures Great and Small,” and other stories about his life here. Today there is a fascinating market in the centre of town selling all kinds of everything plus a wealth of shops, old world pubs and cafes for refreshments and a small Museum relating life in Thirsk from the past to present day. This afternoon we call at Rippon for a short visit. This is one of England’s oldest cities, home to a majestic cathedral where Georgian and medieval buildings surround the ancient marketplace including the grade II listed Town Hall in which the Tourist Information Centre can be found.
